9/11 Suspect “Mastermind” brought to Justice

Held captive sine 2003, alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed says before a military tribunal he wants to be “martyred.” Tried in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba along with five other al-Qaida terrorist suspects seven years after the 9/11 attacks, the arraignment could be the highest profile test yet of the controversial military tribunal system, which is being challenged in the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, Major Jon Jackson, a military lawyer, objects to the use of coerced statements in detainee trials.

The infamous tactics practiced at Guantanamo Bay have earned it the name of the “Black Hole” where detainees are held for indefinite amounts of time. Advocates for civil rights and liberties argue the tactics practiced at Guantanamo Bay are unconstitutional while Government leaders assert them in the name of security. I contend, why can’t we have them both? Read more on the latest news.

Life is Bigger than Just One

Kiwanis is a service organization for individuals desiring personal involvement in the leadership and improvement of their communities. As a way of showing appreciation for the philanthropy the Kiwanis organization does for individuals across the globe, view their “Life is Bigger than Just One” video posted on YouTube.

It is both inspiring and empowering to know there are over eight thousand clubs worldwide, tens of thousands of service projects, and millions of lives touched, because of the difference one person can make through helping another. Help one child, and you help the world. Visit Kiwanis.org to learn how you too can make a positive difference in this world. Big or small, your efforts count.

Blogs: Getting (Inter)active

Blogging is a new world to me, and I’m still adjusting to it just as an infant does when first learning to walk, when they make their first steps into childhood and are flooded with new experiences and sensations every second of their bubbling lives.

People say never to lose that child-like wonder, and I’m making my best effort not to lose it by exploring what Web 2.0 technologies have to offer. As it turns out, blogging (if you hadn’t noticed) gives an instant publishing platform for anyone to use at any moment and at any place. It’s perfect for collaborating ideas and sharing, which is practical at all levels, regardless of who you are or what you think.

There are more than seventy million bloggers who populate the net, and in a world that is made up of somewhere close to 7 billion people, that means a mere one one-hundredth percent of the world’s population are a part of what collectively makes the blogosphere. Part of my belief in making news a fair and balanced place is grounded in the principle that awareness embarks people toward positive change, contrary to what “Stuff White People Like” has to say on Awareness.

If you’d like to know more about how blogs work—or about how to contribute or make your own—visit the Mobilizing Youth Resource Guide. According to how one site defines blogs, they are frequently updated individual Web pages where authors publish original content or recommend other valuable links.

I’ve only just found my legs and begun to explore the Web 2.0 world. My advice is: have at it.

Here's How It Works

I've realized that partly because of my blog design (and mostly because of my inadequate programming skills) it is difficult to generate worthwhile discussion on CITIZENMEDIA.

So I've made another blog called GreatDebater, which allows for easy posting and commenting. The advantage to GreatDebater is that everyone is automatically setup as a contributing writer and can post news leads and commentary as they wish. Also, as time passes, I will post small blurbs on issues I feel are most important to people everywhere. These blurbs will be accessible through CITIZENMEDIA's sidebar. I hope you add to the discussion by engaging yourself and visiting these lists. Also, I will post my favorite sites, blogs, videos, and exciting places recommended by writers and viewers.

Thanks in advance for sharing your voice and telling the media establishment that you want a fair and balanced place for news.

Welcome

Hey everyone and welcome to CITIZENMEDIA. Reading the top of this page will tell you this is the place for fair, balanced, and non-biased media coverage. There are few media sources that offer responsible and sensible journalism, and so it is my goal to provide people with the means to make news a fair and balanced place.

With a little online investigation, I am counting on bloggers, readers, and viewers to pitch-in and share their thoughts on what happens in the world beyond Bill O’Reilly and his views on race, or Lou Dobbs and his next thought-up government disaster. There’s been enough heckling, pandering, and Xerox reporting--I think Americans deserve better than that.

The campaign is only beginning, but soon I hope to have people from all walks of life posting their stories, their opinions, and their beliefs on a wealth of issues. From the latest on the campaign trail to the quake that has devastated thousands half way around the world; this is CITIZENMEDIA where stories from real people tell what really happens beyond what the camera shows you.
